Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Season with Victorious Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the World Championships recently, dominated an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a muscle issue.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (one minute 58.57) secured third place.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was really, really fun."
The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the winners with their crowns.
Previous champions took home $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.
The event also attracted several top athletes, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
